Like any group of people, I think that one of the best things about being a part of the witchy community is that sense of belonging. It is one of the basic human needs and isolation can cause all sorts of issues for us. We are a social animal, we thrive on being part of a bigger whole. That is why solitary confinement is used as a punishment from an early age, when our parents sent us to our rooms for our misdemeanours.
What I love most are the fesitvals that are specific to our eclectic community. Where we can meet up with our friends and extended witchy family, we can dress in the clothes that we love without raising eyebrows. Mind you I quite like raising eyebrows and will attend corporate meetings wearing what most people would only be seen in at Halloween. What can I say? I like being different.
This year I will be going to my usual haunts kicking off on 21st May with the Fairy Festival down in Alfreston. Then there is the amazingly fabulous Healing Weekend at Secret World in Highbridge on 8th – 10th July. This is my absolute favourite festival and I have attended for the past 8 years or so. I go to meet my friends who live all over the country from Scotland to Cornwall. It is one of the only places that I can catch up with them all in the same place.
I await with my anticipation for Witchfest Internationaal to return next year. This is, I believe, the largest gathering of the witchy community in the world and it will be back at it’s usual haunt of Croydon.
These events feed my soul and, as well as catching up with my friends, there is always so much to learn from the great seminars etc that they put on covering a vast array of topics.
So, roll on summer and let the witchy events begin. Perhaps you can let me know which ones you will be attending and why you go.
